Star Bunny

From Sally Land Art: To celebrate the year of the rabbit avant card has chosen to print some rabbity designs. One of them is the star bunny I drew earlier this year. Because of the fatal myxomatosis virus my little bunny Ralph is living in the stars, along with so many other much loved bunnies. Pick up one of these free postcards from an avant card venue and help spread the word that Australia needs to legalise the myxomatosis vaccine!

Rabbits are a controversial matter in Australia.

There are the vast majority that consider them a "pest", an introduced feral that wreaks havoc on the environment, competes with other native animals for food and habitat and must be eradicated in the name of conservation. Many people are starting to lobby for more meat farms for rabbits. Scientists create more virus' to poison them. And companies use them in animal testing labs to test anything from the effects of green tea, to the latest cosmetics.

Another, notably smaller group in society, lobby for greater protection of rabbits and believe many of the myths about rabbits have been planted as propaganda. Many of these people consider themselves environmentalists as well, but attribute over 90% of environmental damage to livestock which currently take over 1/3 of the land on our earth.

A third group, often also from the second group of thinkers, advocate domestic rabbits as companions and believe they should be just as respected and cared for as domestic dogs and cats are. They lobby for a vaccine for their pets against government released virus' (myxomatosis has no cure) and for pets to not be lumped into the same pest category as wild rabbits; their environmental imprint relative to zero.

With these competing voices comes this website which compiles information, reports and current affairs to do with rabbits with a loose focus on Sydney and Australian issues and articles.
